Planning Research and Statistics
The Department of Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS) is a key component of the Ministry of Communication, Science, and Technology, serving as the foundation for informed decision-making, strategic planning, and policy development. This department plays a pivotal role in charting the Ministry’s course, guiding its initiatives, and ensuring alignment with state goals for Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), as well as the promotion of digital technologies across the state.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy Formulation & Analysis: PRS is responsible for formulating and analyzing policies related to STI, digital technologies, and communication, ensuring that the Ministry’s initiatives are data-driven and effective.
- Research & Sectoral Analysis: The department conducts extensive research in sectors under the Ministry’s jurisdiction, providing evidence-based insights to support policy development and project design.
- Data Management: PRS oversees the management, collection, processing, and dissemination of data and statistics, ensuring the Ministry’s information systems are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: The department regularly monitors and evaluates ongoing projects and initiatives to ensure they meet predefined targets and objectives, making adjustments as necessary for optimal outcomes.
- Development Planning & Coordination: PRS coordinates the preparation of the Ministry’s Development and Annual Work Plans, collaborating with other departments and parastatals to align goals and strategies across the Ministry.
- External Relations: The department also plays a key role in managing external relations, fostering partnerships, and ensuring the Ministry’s activities are in line with state and national priorities for innovation and technology development.
