Enterprise Development

The Department of Enterprise Development was established alongside the Ministry. Initially merged with two other departments—Physical & Life Sciences and Technology Acquisition—it was demerged in August 2021. The department focuses on fostering long-term business growth, sustainability, and competitiveness, supporting entrepreneurs and technopreneurs, especially in rural areas. It plays a key role in policy-making and interventions aimed at stimulating business growth, addressing market failures, and integrating science and technology for socio-economic development.

Core Functions of the Department

  • Entrepreneurship Promotion and Support: Encouraging entrepreneurial initiatives, assisting startups, and nurturing business ideas.
  • Business Process Improvement: Optimizing operational efficiency to expand businesses and create jobs.
  • SME Support: Enhancing the competitiveness and performance of small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • Access to Funding: Facilitating financial support, grants, and investment opportunities.
  • Job Creation: Promoting economic development and employment through business growth initiatives.
  • Technology Integration: Advocating for the adoption of new technologies to improve business competitiveness.
  • Market Expansion: Assisting businesses in expanding to new markets, both locally and internationally.
